STUDENT COUNCILstudent council

Pictured above are members of the Ashland Middle School Student Council, who under the guidance of Mrs. Teresa Merrifield, have been working hard to re-establish the organization.

As one of their projects, the students have planned a specific theme day for each month of the school year, with Hat Day the choice for December. In order to be able to wear a hat during the school day on December 2nd, students in all grades who wanted to participate were asked to bring in a monetary contribution which would be donated to a community organization. The event raised over $250. In addition to the themed days, the Student Council members are volunteering some of their time for various events. On Dec. 12th they stayed after school to make baked goods for Blood Drive donors during the National Red Cross Blood Drive, sponsored by the school that took place that day.

Our partner in education, Meredith Village Savings Bank, is once again sponsoring the $ave For usa-flagAmerica Banking program for Ashland School students. Every Thursday morning, students have the opportunity to learn the value of saving for the future by making electronic deposits to their individual savings accounts at the school. Our wonderful MVSB trained volunteers will be on hand to take care of the students’ transactions. If you wish to have your child enrolled in the program he/she may pick up information packets in the school office.

Also present were Mr. Lee Nichols, and Mr.Joe Vittum from Ashland Electric who talked to the boys and girls about respecting and staying away from the "Circle of Safety" (indicated by orange traffic cones) when electric company men and trucks are working.
